Who We Are...

The Clay County Historical Society is made up of people just like you who share an interest in the history of Clay County, and northeast Alabama. We are friends, and neighbors from all walks of life committed to preserving, promoting and passing on the legacy of our rich and varied history.

We know that history is more than names and dates. History is the joy, the heartbreak, the defeat and the victory that shape our lives and influence our future. With this in mind it is our goal to make the history of our county: it's stories, photographs, and messages near forgotten, accessible to all people so that we may learn from the experiences of those that have gone before us.

History is still being written. The present is simply tomorrow's history. Right now you have an amazing opportunity to let your story be told and add to the growing number of narratives defining our collective legacy. Truly the history of Clay County would not be complete without every voice being heard. We need to hear your story!

The Clay County Historical Society meets every third Monday of the month at the old Ashland Post Office (future Historical Museum of Clay County) just right of City Hall in Ashland, AL. at 6:30 pm. We welcome you to join us whether your Clay County roots stretch back decades or whether your just passing through. Every story deserves to be heard, and everyone is invited. We look forward to seeing you.
